How to add special effects (Fx) to a video
So you think your video could use a little something extra? Maybe a bit more flair - something to really make it pop off the screen? elevate.io’s special Fx tools make it super easy to take your edit to the next level. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to add special Fx in just a few clicks.
Head to the Effects tab
Over on left-hand side of the editor, click the Effects tab. Then, make sure you’re in the Fx section.

Select a Fx
In Fx, you can choose from:
Vignette - adds a soft shadow around the edge of your video, drawing subtle attention to your subject.
Blur - perfect for creating a dreamy, out-of-focus look.
Mosaic - pixelates your video, giving it that nostalgic, retro video game feel.
Damaged film - gives your footage that grainy, old-school cinema tape aesthetic.

Drag and drop Fx onto the timeline
Once you’ve picked a Fx, just drag and drop it onto a clip in the timeline.

Adjust intensity
With your clip selected, head to the bottom-right of the editor. Here, you’ll find sliders to adjust how dramatic or subtle the effect will be.
Intensity - drag to the right to increase and to left to decrease intensity
For Vignette:
X radius ratio = controls how far the vignette spreads horizontally
Y radius ratio = controls how far the vignette spreads vertically
Drop rate = affects how soft or sharp the vignette shadow is

Preview the edit
Once applied, hit play to preview your clip with the Fx in action. You can also layer multiple effects if you’re feeling adventurous.

Disable and delete
Still deciding if it’s the right look? Toggle the Fx on or off to preview the before and after. If you change your mind completely, hit the trash can icon to delete the effect from your clip.

Congratulations! You've just learnt how to add special Fx in elevate.io. Whether you're going for nostalgic, cinematic, or pixel-powered fun, these Fx tools are a quick way to give your video that extra edge - no complicated editing required.
